BAD REFERENCES

...or as I call it "skeletons in the closet." Most people think that their references are singing their praises. Little do they know, nor can they believe that many of their closest friends are ratting them out! Most people worry about their employers, but HR representatives are bound by what their legal counsel has recommended--which is to say only the position, dates employed and if they are eligible for re-hire.

A recent client swore up and down to me that those skeletons weren't his personal references...until we conducted a reference check. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Moral of the story: check your references before you give them to a potential employer. For more information on reference checks, go to http://www.resumesuite.com/writing_services.html and click on the reference link.
